GTA Sequels?

Many avid GTA gamers have suggested improvements and update to the GTA engine (not that there's anything wrong with it!). Here we suggest a few ourselves, and hope to produce some original ideas. Please feel free to send us your ideas on the sequels...

  • Chaffey wants to see GTA with a better range of weapons...
  • Better cops intelligence... cops working together as opposed to blocking you in serial. Lots of nice road-blocks and cops with different roles, like captains.
  • The inevitable SWAT teams (see funny 'screen-shots' posted all over the internet), armoured backups, police motorbikers, mounted police (or mounties), and tanks!
  • The ability to go into buildings may be cool, but it may also spoil the game... let's see what happens.
  • Although many of the proles want the ability to go into '3D Quarantine / Quake' mode whilst driving or wandering around, we don't think it will rock - look what happened to that Sim City thing!
  • Most important of all, however is that GTA2 owners aren't CHEATED by being sold products which don't contain nuns with guitars. Hopefully, a patch will then be released with extra nuns & guitars for GTA1 owners.
  • Christ! What an attachment! Here's something from Aaron.
    You can spray any vehicle, and choose the color and graphics
    In auto shops you choose whether you have just your plates, color, graphics changed or just fix your car or a combination
    You can have personalized plates or graphics
    You can go into a gun store and buy weapons
    You can go into a bar or cafe or restaurant and get something to eat or drink and be able to drink it or eat it
    At LEAST 200 different types of vehicle in each city
    All States of America with all towns/cities and you can design your own
    Airplanes, trains and boats that you can "borrow"
    At a dock you can "borrow" oil tankers and stuff like that
    You can mash cats and dogs ect, into the sidewalk
    The cops aren't as violent (except in LA)
    When you run over someone they can slide off the side of your car or over the hood and smash your windshield
    Night, dawn, dusk, ect in other words it gets dark with changes in weather
    Lots of different types of weapons like mines, bombs, grenades, knives,cattle prod, bottle, tazar ect
    You can buy a house for you to live in and say the FBI are on to ya they might come and surround the house
    You can drive from one state to the other
    Multistory car parks, when you go into a building the top disappears so you can see inside
    Car showrooms where you can either buy a car or steal it
    Vehicles won't disappear when an emergency vehicle passes by unless it's on the main road
    Shopping malls, jewelers ect. you can buy new clothes, watches ect.
    More characters to choose from
    You can choose what you look like and what you wear, inc. accessories like sunglasses
    General Stores, where you can buy anything from a CB to spare parts for your car to ice cream
    Indicator lights, head lights, brake lights, reverse lights, that work
    Police can stop you for speeding or whatever but not arrest you unless you commit a crime
    Police motorcyclists
    In places like LA if you steal someone's car they will probably beat you up or shoot at you
    Depending on how fast your going you can tip the car over and scratch the paint off
    Vehicles have realistic damage, you could dent the front of your car, get it fixed, do it again and it would be different
    Vehicles don't always explode some times they will just stop, you can steal a wrecker and tow your car away
    Some vehicles tow trailers or caravans behind them (that you can remove)
    Your car will get damage if it hits a street lamp or wall or stuff like that
    Pressing the brake when in water makes you swim
    In-game map that shows your where you are
    You can get bigfoot cars, monster trucks, army vehicles ect.
    Lots more music (Spice Girls, White Boy, All Saints, stuff with electric guitar that sounds good)
    More than one person can play in a 1 player game, that way your friends can help you complete missions
    There are other criminals out there so the cops aren't always after you
    There is more than one type of a vehicle (Mundano, Mundano 1.3super, Mundano Station Wagon, Ford limo, Volvo limo)
    You can get in taxis and buses without stealing them
    You can send pager messages to other players and talk to them normally, if you know what I mean
    At night the street lights come on as well as peoples lights at home
    People go to the shops, mow the lawn, ect
    When choosing your car color/graphics you see a spinning 3D model of your car and tells you what to fix
    You can kidnap someone and tie them to a tree or lock them in the trunk or in your house
    Cars can go up ramps and on pedestrian walkways but if the gap is to thin it will total the car
    Airports, big airports that work
    You can use phones, useful for making an obscene phonecall to your ex
    Your vehicle can run out of gas, so you have to go to the local gas station
    When a vehicle explodes you see a realistic explosion with a realistic wreck
    You can have a Morris Marina (Marina)
    Military bases look like military bases
    In-Game Music Controls
    Sometimes when people have a crash they get out and argue with each other or you if you stop
    Construction Kit allows you to design your own cities,cars,buildings ect.
    Save Game will save everything
    More realistic vehicle steering, impact response, suspension (for going over kerbs)
    You can tell when you go over a kerb because the car "bumps" and if your turning at the time you might lose control
    You can put cars on transporters or trailers you can put spare parts/shopping/bikes in the trunk or back
    Sometime when you crash parts of your car come off i.e. headlamp, front wing ect. (which you can pick up)
    You can sell any car at scrapyards some have weighbridges, you can go in/sneak in and buy/steal parts or even whole cars if they work and if they dont you can get a wrecker and tow it away some scrapyards have concrete grounds some have grass/mud "shift"
    Police dogs, Mail vans, Bikers
    You can ram through windows and if you are going fast enough walls but then your car needs towing away
    Your car can be on fire but not explode, if you crash your car a fire might break out then a few seconds later it blows up
    If you park on a slope and dont put the handbrake on when you get out then the car will roll down the slope, the same will happen if you stay inside and dont put the brake or handbrake on
    You can attack out of car and building windows
    You can watch TV
    When entering a different state or country it says something like Weclome to Tennesse or You are now Entering Tennesse
    Ya can get armour plating from auto shops and military bases
    traffic moves outta the way for emergency vehicles when their sirens are on

    I'm with arron but all I really want to make sure someone makes(if ever GTA1 was open sourced or something) is Gang recruitment ability, smarter and more civil cops, ability to enter buildings (of course the roof must disappear.), more car simulation ie Drive by shooting, and smash through the windshield of cars if characters don't have seatbelts on at high impact.Working Public transportation, employment(like the sims only you really have to go to work.Items sold at stores and gas stations(like maps).

    Character maintainence, like If you don't eat you get tired and eventually collapse, don't sleep(maybe players can choose either watching their character sleep..with the tv left on..in real time or set the ai to run a quick subprogram to simulate events taking place semirandomly in the night, like a thunderstorm or someone trying to off you while your sleeping you will either wake up or have to watch they're character die in his or her sleep for ease of play most expert criminals have a better chance of become alert unless theyre really beat up bad[classic hospital assassination comes to mind].)

    Character growth, in abilities,loyalty modifications(player can select just how much of the characters life they want to control), reputations,personal relationships(sex!)etc.

    Options setting of wether game is played in 3d(quake) mode, top down mode, or split screen.

    Massively multiplayer (but not so much it becomes at the expense of gameplay)

    Karma! and religious status including effects of marriage and family, CHildren born in hospitals, grow up over time, or can be aged outside of the campaign for use in future campaigns(of course the shouldn't be abled to coexist in their origional campaigns with their families as a child one day then as an adult or as a clone unless they were really cloned by aliens). Fully dynamic global environment including governments with factions that go to war and spy on one another(ever heard of the up and coming game called "REPUBLIC"?) For that last suggestion I would also give the player the option of setting the player character "immunity" levels so that their characters don't find themselves stalked by the government too aggressively(unless they set it that way) by probably having the ai register each ai entity including persons, gangs, corporations, armies, and factions, into an appropriate "priority" level and allowing the user to define and modify the settings on individual entities and priority levels, e.g. setting the liberty city police dept. metro squad as a defined as a Local-multiperson-entity that LEGALLY-operates within City Limits-as a -Law enforcement agency,that actively recruits-through the police acadamy on some street or in some suburb,and is funded by the Mayor or City Council and regulated by the District Attorneys office. whereas "the Skulls" could be defined in the editor as a Global+Regional-multiperson+multibranch-Secret-creedo-entity that COOPERATIVELY-operates on Regional scales anyware on the globe as a secret society network and passively recruits-elite persons on college campuses in their primary region and is funded by a heirarchy collection system that is controlled by a board of "incumbant" directors and is reviewed by a "Thoroughbred Master Skull of the Matrix"(as defined by the editor). then you could have news agencies and law firms,rotary clubs, little leagues, even statewide elections, all running relatively smoothely by the ai until a playe character comes along and monkeywrenches everything and sets himself up as a thug kingpin complete with hired goons that follow him around like the Hari Krihna troupes(only they carry weapons and are usually a lot less likely to run from a gunshot or Knife attack rather than shoot back. and of course running a world like that would require massive amounts of PAPER shipped in from the country side by competative lumber milling companies. So lets say the Player wants to set himself up as the Mayor of Liberty city, he might first read the newspaper and see what the people of Liberty city are concerned about and rally them around some cause going public events or just shouting about it in the nearest park gathering crowds.Then to get in good with the local power brokers in the city council,union or local yaht club, he might make frequent visits to the assiciated buildings of those kinds of organizations, and through his financial and political weight around, making calls to the appropriate offices, and answering his cell phone, when they call back checking hi answering machine frequently in case someone didn't reach him when he was away from his desk.He might carry a pistol in his breifcase in case someone frm his shadowy past shows up unannounced to stop his campaign, then hire a private detective(usually an agency that doesn't discrimminate against employing other player characters) to see who tried to have him killed,then a week later he might decide to visit a highly publicisezed NASA Launch to endorse his campaign using the latest technology being blasted of into orbit (hopefully the launch won't have been sabotaged by some terrorist organization trying to make a point for some Lunar Colony Independance Movement, which the Earth government doesn't like because among other things it would destabalize their trade agreements with the "Alien" exploration fleet that is under contract for terraforming Mars for human habitation, in exchange for limited resouces of the moon and temporary refuge from the Borg who are marauding the galaxy but still don't know about the healthy population ripe for assimilation that lives on Earth in the solar system.heheh.

    I don't know what the GTA1 engine limitations are but whatever theyare I'm sure that it would likely require it becoming open source, and then augmented by a larger more intimate program that fits around it to do what I'm asking. The type of Program for my suggestion would have to do complex things in a simplistic way to retain the look and feel of GTA but I'm sure it could easily be done. (speaking as a person who has never even completed a program in basic A.) I guess it would require a sort've open ended scripting that also allows an engine ai that can extropolate new data comparitively with current world configuration using somewhat universal integer tables that can be diametrically rescaled to both high and low priority sub routines that are correlated. then so as not to tax, cpu resources it processes the data in "spheres" of influence around the principal characters and their actions and the results of its correlation with the saved data outside of the spheres in real time and uses some programmed logic,dynamic probability equations, randomizors, data to update the spheres(probably on a city wide scale) as characters go about moving from sphere to sphere. Basically saying (without using wannabe programmer terminology) the GTA world would function in realtime on the citywide level(I suppose) much as it does now. but When theres no Player Characters on the map it just becomes a database of correlated numbers to the program that tells the rest of the world what kind of state the players left it in and how that should affectively effect the rest of the world.(the same "sphere" process would also be applied to "entities" tied to the city in some way even/especially those that are not based in the city and have had no direct dealings with any player characters..those entities would simply "collapse"algebraicly into equation spheres themselves. )Just picture it as a two rooms being monitered and temperature adjusted by scientists behind two way mirrors to keep the people in the rooms behaving in a way that correlates to each other respectively, ie if the people in one room are testy about something that happens on the radio that the others should be testy about also but their radio is broken and they are supposed to behave as if they are in 1 time zone behind the others so they don't know anything about it,then the scientists turn up the heat to make the others get testy too, only an hour later..I think of it as Sort've a windows 95/gui approach to massively scalable and immersive real time gaming/programming I've been considering as my own future signature style to creating immersive open ended realtime 3d action/RPG/strategy games. well I'm just waiting for GTA 3 to be released, gonna buy a ps2 just to play that game and well a few others too.
